WHY DO LIPS GET DRY AND HOW TO GET RID OF IT

Did you know that the average person takes about 15,000 to 20,000 breaths a day? That's approximately 42 billion breaths a year. Your lips touch every single one of these breaths and need care daily. Let's talk about how lip health can help your Lips Care!

SYMPTOMS OF LIPS DRYNESS

  1. Feeling tight or uncomfortable

  2. Flaking

  3. Cracking

  4. Burning

CAUSES OF LIPS DRYNESS

Lip dryness is a common problem, and one that can be caused by many different factors.

  1. External exposure;

    Dry air, low temperatures, and wind all have adverse effect on skin by drawing humidity away from the body. Lips are specially inclined due to the fact that pores and skin is so thin, and as a result they're regularly the primary to offer symptoms of dryness.

SOLUTION

If your lips are dry because of the weather, you might want to try a lip balm with an SPF rating.

Use a humidifier in the wintertime or whenever the air gets dry. The air we breathe is one of the main causes of chapped lips, so if you live somewhere with long winters or very dry summers, this could be a major factor contributing to your lip dryness. If you can't get a humidifier in every room (which would probably be ideal), try focusing on bedrooms and living rooms where you might spend extended periods of time.

  1. Dehydration ;

    The most common cause of lip dryness is dehydration: drinking enough water is essential to keeping your body functioning at its best, including the skin on your lips.

SOLUTION

If your lips are dry because of your diet, try drinking more water, having more fruits and vegetables, or cutting down on alcohol and caffeine (which cause dehydration).

  1. Certain medications ;

    Some medicines can actually cause dryness in your lips if they're made with ingredients that irritate the skin on your lips or draw out moisture from it.

    SOLUTION

    Apply aloe vera gel to your lips several times a day for quick relief from dryness and cracking. You can use pure aloe vera gel or choose a moisturizing lip product containing aloe vera and glycerin as active ingredients.

  1.  Frequent Licking ;

    Frequent licking dries out your lips instead of helping them. This is because saliva evaporates quickly and this process leaves behind minerals that will actually draw moisture away from your skin instead of helping to put it back in.

           SOLUTION

     Don't lick your lips! It sounds like common sense, but it can be really tempting when you're         feeling that chapped itch. But moisture evaporates quickly from your lips—in fact, even               faster than from your skin—so licking them only makes the problem worse

  1. Wong Lip balm ;

    You might be using the wrong lip balm! There are balms out there that actually dry your lips out more, and make the problem worse. Make sure you're using the right kind so you don't get stuck in a vicious cycle.

SOLUTION

Apply a homemade honey lip balm. Honey has been used as medicine and cosmetics for thousands of years; it's considered an emollient (meaning it helps skin retain its moisture)

  1. Sunburn:

    If you spend a lot of time outdoors without sun protection, it'll not only burn your skin—it could burn and dehydrate your lips as well. Make sure to reapply SPF lip balm if you're going to be in the sun for an extended period of time.

SOLUTION

Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly (like Vaseline) to your lips as needed.

-Use sunscreen containing lip balm

  1. Allergies

    Lip glosses can be surprisingly allergenic. Most lip glosses contain preservatives to make sure they stay safe to use over an extended period of time. But if you have an allergy, applying these preservatives to your lips could cause them to dry out.

SOLUTION

You can make your own balm easily at home with ingredients such as coconut oil or shea butter. This is a great option to avoid chemicals that are often found in store-bought lip balms and cosmetics.

Beeswax lip balm has been found to be one of the most effective at treating dry lips.

BEST HOME REMEDIES TO CURE DRY LIPS

You can totally fix your chapped lips with given home remedies. During winters your lips tend to dry and they crack causing them to bleed. During summers your lips are dry but then they get discolored. You approach a physician who prescribes you with Lip balms, which due to it being mass manufactured doesn't help much. Here are some home remedies for healthy and beautiful Lips:-

REMEDY # 1 (COCONUT OIL )

TOOLS NEEDED

First, you want to make sure you're prepared with the right tools: a small bowl, a small spoon, and an electric mixer. You can use any kind of bowl or spoon, but we recommend stainless steel or glass bowls and ceramic spoons

FOLLOW THIS PROCEDURE

Next, take some coconut oil—you want to make sure it is organic and unrefined—and melt it in the bowl. We recommend heating it over low heat on the stove so that it melts evenly. If you have a lot of lip dryness, you might want about half a cup of oil (make sure to measure carefully!).

Once the oil has melted, remove it from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes until it's only warm to the touch. Then place the oil in your mixing bowl and add about one teaspoon of honey for every 1/4 cup of coconut oil you used. Mix on high speed for about three minutes, then move your mixture into a clean container that has an airtight lid, like an old lipstick tube or pill bottle. You can store this in the fridge if you'd like—it will last at least two months.

REMEDY # 2 (HONEY )

Honey has naturally antibacterial and moisturizing properties. Add honey to a small amount of lukewarm water, and apply the mixture to your lips. Let the mixture sit on your lips for 10 minutes before rinsing it away with clean water. You can also apply honey directly to your lips and let it sit overnight as an overnight moisturizing mask. Be sure not to use too much honey at once—a pea-sized amount should do the trick.

REMEDY # 3 (Aloe Vera Gel)

Apply aloe vera gel to your lips several times a day for quick relief from dryness and cracking. You can use pure aloe vera gel or choose a moisturizing lip product containing aloe vera and glycerin as active ingredients.

REMEDY # 4 ( Olive Oil )

If you'd prefer to use something that's already in your pantry instead of mixing up your own concoction, look no further than olive oil! You can use a small amount of olive oil to massage into your lips before bedtime or before heading out for the day.

REMEDY # 5 ( Sugar + Honey)

For a more involved remedy that can be used as a longer-term treatment, combine one tablespoon of sugar with half a teaspoon of honey and mix until it forms a paste. Gently rub this paste over your lips for about 2 minutes, rinse off with warm water, and pat dry.

Medical Conditions

Having dry lips isn't just annoying—it can actually be a sign that something's wrong.

If you think that might be the case for you, go see your doctor ASAP. They may recommend changing up your lip skincare routine to something that's more hydrating and moisturizing, or they could tell you to take supplements to help your skin repair itself—either way, it's important to make sure there's not a bigger issue at hand.

If you've already taken care of all the other potential causes and your lips are still dry as hell, it's possible that you have an underlying medical condition like a thyroid problem or diabetes. If this is the case, talk to your doctor about how best to treat it so you can get back on track with good health
